2019 Christmas Mini Sessions!

Announcing my 2019 Christmas Sessions! With the cooler evenings and changing leaves comes the planning of colder weather activities. I don’t know about you, but I’ve had an especially hard time getting my head wrapped around thinking about winter this year. I feel like summer was just not summer with all the rain and cooler weather. It’s definitely made for gorgeous green landscapes all summer long though! With that said, it’s time to start thinking about Christmas photos! One of my favourite things about the Holiday season is receiving all the beautiful Christmas cards from friends and family with the updated photos of everyone. I love displaying these with tiny clothes pins on red and white bakers twine hanging from my fire place mantle. It’s something that my girls also look forward too every year. I mean, who doesn’t love getting happy mail!? When the season is over and it’s time to pack everything away I add all the photo cards that we received that season into a pretty little box where I keep them safe until the next season. This little box is set out on the coffee table for my kids and I to look through the next season together. It’s such a fun little tradition.

This year is my second year offering Christmas Session’s and I am so excited about it and I hope all of you are too! For several years now Heather of Orange Trunk Rentals has been creating beautifully styled Christmas backdrops that Photographers can rent to offer Mini Sessions to clients. Heather puts SO much into these sets that she creates with the most amazing and magical details. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for this years set and which couch from her huge array of couches she will choose. It’s sure to be amazing!

There are 6 sessions available this year with me, with a 10 minute time slot per session. This will be hosted in DeWinton, Alberta, just south of the City on Saturday November 16th, 2019 from 3pm to 4pm. The cost is $235 and you will receive 10 high resolution images to download as well as a Christmas card template that you can choose your favourite image to use on and either have your cards printed with my favourite professional printer or have it printed on your own. Whichever you prefer. You will receive your images back within 2 weeks, which gives plenty of time to print your cards and send them out.

If you are interested in booking, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email. To secure your spot, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required. My email: meg@goldenlightstudio.com

I look forward to this fun day and capturing your family for this upcoming festive season!!

Ohler Family - Newborn Photography Calgary, Alberta

I had the honour of photographing the newest chapter in the Ohler families story. Sweet baby Emery. Riley and I grew up together, going to school together in a small town in southern Alberta. He comes from an amazing family who farms east of Stavely, Alberta. They have seen their fair share of trials and have shown such grace and strength in everything they have had to endure. Riley, his wife Ainsley and their son Rhett lost their 15 month old son, and brother, Colin last June. Something no one should have to navigate through.

When Riley asked me if I would document the “Play Date for Colin” to celebrate his short but big life I was honoured and filled with emotion. They knew the day would be really hard. A blur. With so many people offering kind words and condolences they would surely miss the details that they one day might want to reflect on. If I could use my gift of photography to someday have images for Colin’s family to look back on, to help heal, to remember all those who came to remember him and celebrate him - I would. Happily. Not easily but I was honoured to give them the gift of memories on what was most likely the hardest day of their lives.

Fast forward to Spring of 2019. In what must have been a slow and hard few months for this family focusing on healing and repairing their broken hearts. Riley, Ainsley and Rhett welcomed a baby girl named Emery into their family. I was beyond honoured when they asked me to capture her and their family. Sweet tributes to Colin were sprinkled into their images thoughtfully. The blue heart symbolizes Colin and how loved he is. The blue nail polish, blue clothing choices. The tattoo on Riley’s arm - the last words he said to his little boy. It’s experiences like these, where I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to create magical images for a family, however emotional and hard it may be sometimes. It’s the best job in the world!

You are already so loved sweet Emery. <3

A Look Back on 2018 Through My Lens: Part One

2018 went fast! My Grandma always said “Time seems to go faster the older you get”. She was so right. I feel like a year only takes 6 months, I’m doomed since I’m not yet 40! lol

2018 was a busy year for me. I had my first full year starting up + running Golden Light Studios and taking photos on a professional level. I’ve learned so much, had some big challenges {mostly computer related, the least favourite part for me ha!} and managed to make this little website all on my own. One goal is to keep this blog more up to date and share lots of photos here.

Running this little business + being a mom to two has been so fun but has also challenged me to my limits. I’m hoping to streamline + simplify processes in 2019 to free up a little extra time away from this computer and stretch my creativity. With the bustle of the Holidays over with and January here and in full swing I hope to finally share some of my favourite images that I captured in 2018 here in this blog space. I’m really proud of where I’m at in my Photography, I’ve worked really hard to hone my skills and teach myself and I really owe myself and the images hidden on my hard drive some spotlight. I hope you love them just as much as I do!

This is Part 1 and it showcases photos I hadn’t even looked at until January 3 of this year. These are of my little girls, Milly and Lexi. I have only shared a couple of the photos I took from their little autumn session in September. I ADORE how their personalities shine through. One is not like the other…

Thanks for being here + thank you so much to the families + clients who supported my tiny business in 2018, I can’t wait to see what 2019 brings!

I’m always up for enriching my photography portfolio so when I saw that The Opentrunk Workshop was putting on a Boudoir Styled Session I ordered a ticket right away! Then I thought, oh my gosh! Boudoir. What am I getting into. Panicked a little, I tried rounding up some troops to come with me to learn along side me. Unfortunately it was short notice, not takers. I was on my own! Off I went to WaterValley to the cutest little church. Shaking in my pants but also super excited. The rest is history and I CAN’T WAIT to take part in the next styled session by thee sweet Heather. Heather and Meg Skalicky put on a beautiful Styled Boudoir Session + I met some amazing local photographers, some of which I still follow and even get the sweetest support from (Thanks Noel, you’re such a sweet cheerleader for so many other women in the industry! - check, her, out! www.noelcosgrove.com). That time I captured an amazing birth!

I have taken well over 150,000 photos since my girls were born. I absolutely love babies + photography. So much so that my dear friend Louise (@birthumentary) captured the home birth of my youngest Lexi. AMAZING + best most memorable experience I might add. I treasure those images and will for my entire life. Best gift I’ve ever been given. I never in a million years thought I’d be asked by that same dear friend to be the backup photographer for a sweet client she was to be photographing their birth for. Timing decided that I would be their photographer. Most nerve-racking but AMAZING experience and privilege I have had. I’ll treasure that opportunity forever.

Here are a few of my very favourite images from that special night/day :)
